🌬️ Understanding Air Quality
The Air Quality Index (AQI) tells you how clean or polluted your air is and what associated health effects might be. The AQI focuses on health effects you may experience within a few hours or days after breathing polluted air.
Major Pollutants:
- PM2.5: Fine particles that can penetrate deep into lungs
- PM10: Coarse particles from dust, pollen, and mold
- Ozone (O₃): Ground-level ozone, can trigger asthma
- Nitrogen Dioxide (NO₂): From vehicle emissions
- Sulfur Dioxide (SO₂): From industrial processes
- Carbon Monoxide (CO): Odorless, colorless gas
💡 Air Quality Guidelines
GOOD (0-50)
- Air quality is satisfactory
- Little to no health risk
- Ideal for all outdoor activities
MODERATE (51-100)
- Acceptable air quality
- Unusually sensitive people should limit prolonged outdoor exertion
- Most people can enjoy normal outdoor activities
UNHEALTHY FOR SENSITIVE GROUPS (101-150)
- Children, elderly, and people with respiratory conditions may be affected
- General public is not likely to be affected
- Sensitive groups should reduce prolonged outdoor activities
UNHEALTHY (151-200)
- Everyone may begin to experience health effects
- Sensitive groups may experience serious effects
- Avoid prolonged outdoor activities
VERY UNHEALTHY (201-300)
- Health warnings of emergency conditions
- Everyone should avoid outdoor activities
- Stay indoors with windows closed
HAZARDOUS (301+)
- Health alert: everyone may experience serious effects
- Avoid all outdoor activities
- Use air purifiers indoors
